Bas Heijne houdt ons een spiegel voor (NRC 4\/6\/22 Oorlogsmoe? Nee, nu komt het erop aan). De oorlog in Oekra\u00efne krijgt in onze dagelijkse beslommeringen niet meer die volle aandacht vergeleken met het begin op 24\/2\/2022. Een oorlog op een afstand van 1300 km moet concurreren met bijv. het boeken van een vakantie met vroegboekkorting of het dagelijks doorstaan van toenemend fileleed op de weg. Nu de kogels niet om onze oren fluiten, verliest de oorlog aan aandacht. Vele Nederlanders in WO2 hadden de realiteit van de bezetting geabsorbeerd in hun dagelijkse beslommeringen. Laat staan in een oorlog ver weg. In het neoliberale gedachtegoed neemt de overheid daar een bescheiden plaats in. Maar niet als het om de bescherming van de bevolking gaat. Het is goed om paniek te vermijden, maar dat er een grote crisis voor de deur staat moet de bevolking ook duidelijk gemaakt worden. Aandacht voor een maatregel om de prijs van een pakje sigaretten te verhogen tot 40 euro (ik ben geen roker) past daar niet in. Dit lijkt te veel op Colijn die vier jaar voor de inval van Nazi Duitsland in Nederland de bevolking suste om \u201ceven rustig te gaan slapen als zij dat ook andere nachten doen\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The war in Ukraine no longer gets that full attention in our daily worries compared to the start on 24\/2\/2022. A war at a distance of 1300 km has to compete with, for example, booking a holiday with an early bird discount or enduring the increasing traffic congestion on the road every day. Now that the bullets are not whistling around our ears, the war is losing focus. Many Dutch in WW2 had absorbed the reality of the occupation into their daily worries. Let alone in a war far away. The government occupies a modest place in neoliberal thinking. But not when it comes to protecting the population. It is good to avoid panic, but the population must also be made clear that a major crisis is imminent. Attention to a measure to increase the price of a pack of cigarettes to 40 euros (I am not a smoker) does not fit in that. This is too much like Colijn who, four years before the invasion of Nazi Germany in the Netherlands, soothed the population to “go to sleep as quietly as they do on other nights”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
