In het artikel daarover werd Ren\u00e9 Moerland gememoreerd, die in 2020 schreef: \u201eLicht verwijst naar de rede \u2013 waarmee je de werkelijkheid onderzoekt. Vrijheid is de individuele vrijheid \u2013 om te oordelen en te handelen. Daarbij denk ik ook meteen aan de democratische vrijheid, gewaarborgd door grondrechten die een open, pluralistische samenleving behoeden voor dictatuur van de meerderheid. [\u2026] Het gaat om de individuele ruimte om een mening te vormen gebaseerd op feiten.\u201d Lux et Libertas is, aldus Moerland \u201ede oerkreet van onze journalistiek\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens mij geheel in lijn met het aan de verlichtingsfilosoof Voltaire toegedichte citaat: \u201cIk verafschuw wat u zegt, maar ik zal uw recht om het te zeggen met mijn leven verdedigen.\u201d Laat het duidelijk zijn, dat ook de krant een positie mag innemen bij grote maatschappelijke vraagstukken. Op grond van feiten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In deze traditie heeft de redactie in reactie op het Hoofdlijnenakkoord van PVV, BBB, NSC en VVD gemeend haar grote ongenoegen duidelijk te moeten maken (NRC 17\/5\/24 Met de PVV in centrum van de macht wordt het abnormale ten onrechte genormaliseerd). Ik denk, dat de NRC hiermee een brug te ver is gegaan. Dat controversi\u00eble meningen, zoals die over de Gazacrisis, in de krant de ruimte krijgen ligt geheel ingebed in het motto Lux et Libertas. Maar door als redactie zo scherp te waarschuwen voor het\u00a0(door mij vrij vertaald)\u00a0ondemocratisch gehalte van een wel democratisch gekozen coalitie gooit het invloedrijke NRC olie op het al sterk aanwezige polarisatievuur, terwijl de krant juist een verbindende rol zou moeten spelen in de samenleving. De krant heeft met het uiten van haar ongenoegen namelijk de schijn gewekt, dat andersluidende meningen niet meer welkom zijn. De schijn dat het objectieve van de berichtgeving plaats maakt voor subjectiviteit. Een slechte zaak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
