Maar zulke verdragen zijn geschreven voor mensen die zich willen houden aan de strekking van die verdragen. Dus eigenlijk hoeven zij voor deze mensen niet geschreven te worden. Maar ook voor de boosdoeners niet. Die weten, dat anderen die de rode lijn hebben getrokken het nooit zullen wagen om deze boosdoeners v\u00f3\u00f3r die lijn tegen te houden anders dan ten koste van veel dood en verderf aan eigen zijde (NRC 29\/5\/24 Is er een rode lijn voor Isra\u00ebl in Rafah? Beeld van onthoofd kind gaat velen te ver). Dat is politiek bijna niet haalbaar. Dat is bij de Oekra\u00efne\/Rusland oorlog dicht bij huis al een probleem, laat staan bij het Isra\u00ebl\/Hamas conflict. Eigenlijk zijn we met z\u2019n allen al heel lang over \u2018the thin red line\u2019 heen gestapt. Door het kijken naar onwerkelijke, waanzinnige beelden op televisie, internet, sociale media van dood en verderf in de verschillende internationale conflicten. Onwerkelijk, omdat je met een cappuccino binnen handbereik de beelden opslorpt zonder zelf de pijn en het leed te voelen. Waanzinnig, omdat de beelden niet onderdoen voor een slechte \u2018slashermovie\u2019. En dan is het trekken van een rode lijn als teken van \u2018tot hier en niet verder\u2019 een platitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-31f09ffd20dc060b10ac6bbf0cfd810f\">Conventions of humanitarian law are there to stop or punish human rights violators before their act and in any case afterwards. But such treaties are written for people who want to adhere to the meaning of those treaties. So actually they don&#8217;t need to be written for these people. But not for the evildoers either. They know that others who have drawn the red line will never dare to stop these evildoers before that line, other than at the cost of much death and destruction on their own side (NRC 29\/5\/24 Is there a red line for Israel in Rafah? Image of decapitated child goes too far for many). That is almost politically impossible. That is already a problem close to home in the Ukraine\/Russia war, let alone in the Israel\/Hamas conflict. In fact, we have all crossed &#8217;the thin red line&#8217; for a long time. By watching unreal, crazy images on television, internet, social media of death and destruction in the various international conflicts. Unreal, because with a cappuccino within reach you absorb the images without feeling the pain and suffering yourself. Insane, because the images are on par with a bad &#8216;slasher movie&#8217;.
