Er is eigenlijk maar \u00e9\u00e9n oorzaak. De Nederlandse burger wil het niet. Dat er daardoor te weinig belasting binnenkomt wordt gepareerd door te wijzen op de veel te hoge overheidsuitgaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De mentaliteit van de burger is veranderd. Van volgzaam naar fomo. Omdat het vertrouwen in de overheid langzaam verkruimelt en in het kielzog daarvan het vertrouwen, dat de overheid rechtvaardig omgaat met solidariteit. Kom niet aan mijn vrijstelling, begin maar eerst bij een ander. Hebben is houden.
Die mentaliteit zeurt door naar de politiek, de uiteindelijke wetgever. De top van de democratie. Dus je kan op die mentaliteit eigenlijk geen kritiek hebben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De Belastingdienst zelf ziet belastingheffing als het leveren van een bijdrage aan een financieel gezond Nederland. Financieel gezond is, dat er belasting wordt ge\u00efnd om de begrote uitgaven te financieren. Maar omdat het vertrouwen sterk is verminderd, beroept de burger meer dan voorheen zich op zijn democratisch recht om te weten, dat zijn belasting goed is besteed \u00e9n dat zijn buurman ook zijn deel in de pot bijdraagt (fair share).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De burger is daar niet van overtuigd. Dan is elk voornemen om het belastingstelsel te herzien voor de b\u00fchne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is really only one reason: the Dutch public does not want it. Arguments regarding the resulting shortfall in tax revenue are countered by pointing to excessively high government spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public mindset has shifted\u2014from compliance to FOMO. This stems from the slow erosion of trust in the government, and with it, the belief that the authorities handle the principle of solidarity fairly. “Don’t touch my exemption; start with someone else.” “What\u2019s mine is mine.”
This mentality permeates politics\u2014the ultimate legislative authority and the pinnacle of our democracy. So, in a sense, one cannot really criticize that mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tax and Customs Administration itself views taxation as a contribution to a financially healthy Netherlands\u2014a state defined by the collection of taxes to fund budgeted expenditure. However, due to a significant erosion of trust, citizens are increasingly asserting their democratic right to know that their taxes are being well spent and that their neighbors are also contributing their fair share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citizens are not convinced of this. Consequently, any plan to overhaul the tax system amounts to nothing more than a hollow gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
