Ik ben blij dat je bent blijven hangen op mijn website. Dan kan ik even vertellen wie ik ben. Een onlangs gepensioneerde inspecteur vennootschapsbelasting. Die korte verhaaltjes wil schrijven over allerhande interessante onderwerpen. Voor mij interessante onderwerpen. In digitale jargon: schrijven van blogs.

I’m glad you stuck with my website. Then I can tell you who I am. A recently retired corporate income tax inspector. Who wants to write short stories about all kinds of interesting topics. Interesting topics for me. In digital jargon: writing blogs.

In mijn werkzame leven heb ik mij veel bezig gehouden met het verzamelen van fiscale info (uitspraken van rechters) voor mijn collega’s in het land. Moeilijk verteerbare kost op een luchtig opgemaakt presenteerblaadje. Op een manier, die bij velen een glimlach op hun gezicht toverde. En direct toepasbaar, natuurlijk.

In my working life I have been very busy collecting tax information (judgments of judges) for my colleagues in the country. Hard-to-digest fare on an airy silver platter. In a way that put a smile on many faces. And immediately applicable, of course.

Het werd mij duidelijk, dat een boodschap aankomt als je de mooie verpakking niet vergeet. Dat betekent effectief schrijven. Gericht op de ontvanger. De boodschap al in de eerste 5 regels meegeven. Af en toe een tegeltjeswijsheid erbij. Doe je dat niet, dan verdwijnt de hele tekst onderaan de groeiende stapel ‘nog te lezen’.

It became clear to me that a message arrives if you do not forget the beautiful packaging. That means effective writing. Aimed at the receiver. Give the message already in the first 5 lines. An occasional tile wisdom. If you don’t, the entire text will disappear at the bottom of the growing “to-read” pile.

Belasting en jurisprudentie daarover (uitspraken van rechters) blijven toch mijn aandacht trekken. Die voor mij opvallend zijn. Omdat zij ergernis, maar ook een glimlach opwekken. En die ertoe doen, natuurlijk. Belasting raakt tenslotte ieders portemonnee.

Taxation and jurisprudence about this (ruling by judges) continue to attract my attention. Which stand out to me. Because they cause annoyance, but also a smile. And those that matter, of course. After all, tax affects everyone’s wallet.

Nu heb ik tijd om ook over niet-fiscale onderwerpen te schrijven. Mijn mening te geven. Van je hart geen moordkuil maken. Maar niet zomaar. De NRC (krant) is mijn spiegel, de bron van mijn reacties. De sport is om zo te schrijven, dat NRC geïnteresseerd is om het in de krant te plaatsen. Een paar keer gelukt. En vele keren niet gelukt 😉

Now I have time to write about non-tax topics as well. to give my opinion. Don’t turn your heart into a murder pit. But not just like that. The NRC (newspaper) is my mirror, the source of my reactions. The sport is to write in such a way that NRC is interested in placing it in the newspaper. Successful a few times. And failed many times 😉

Maar ook ‘science’ en ‘sciencefiction’ staan op de rol.

Waartoe leidt dat schrijven? Een boek. Over een toekomstige wereld van StarTrek in relatie tot belastingen. Een wereld waarin de replicator (een soort 3D printer) alle materie kan maken. Bezit en inkomen zijn dus onbeperkt aanwezig. Herverdeling is niet meer noodzakelijk. Belastingen zijn eigenlijk overbodig. Met een voorgenomen wereldwijde minimumbelasting van 15% door de OESO – een soort vlaktaks – maken we al een klein stapje in die richting. Ook de wens tot de invoering van een wereldwijd minimuminkomen wijst in diezelfde richting. Maar mogelijk heeft belastingheffing een rol in de verdeling van nog wel schaarse goederen zoals levensruimte en vastgoed. De uitvoerder in die heffing is de universele belastinginspecteur. Verpakt in een thrillerachtige scifi omgeving moet hier een leuk verhaal van te maken zijn. Vóór mijn 80ste.

What does that writing lead to? A book. About a future world of StarTrek in relation to taxes. A world in which the replicator (a kind of 3D printer) can make all matter. Property and income are therefore unlimited. Redistribution is no longer necessary. Taxes are actually superfluous. With a proposed worldwide minimum tax of 15% by the OECD – a kind of flat tax – we are already taking a small step in that direction. The desire to introduce a worldwide minimum income also points in the same direction. However, taxation may have a role in the distribution of still scarce goods such as living space and real estate. The executor of that levy is the universal tax inspector. Packed in a thriller-like sci-fi environment, this should be a fun story to make. Before my 80th.
