De beschrijving van de ontvlechting van de Belastingdienst leest als een ingreep á la Elon Musk in Twitter (NRC 10/12/2022 De ‘radicale oplossing’ die er van Wopke Hoekstra moest en zou komen). Het verschil is dat Musk dit vanuit een voor hem beproefde visie doet (eis van hard werken) met eigen geld en dat de toenmalige minister van Financiën Wopke Hoekstra als door een wesp gestoken smijt met het geld van de belastingbetaler. Daadkracht, maar tegen het advies van de top van de Belastingdienst én haar ondernemingsraad in. De onderlinge versmelting is te groot om op korte termijn te ontvlechten. De huidige staatssecretaris Marnix van Rij neemt dezelfde daadkracht van de toenmalige minister van financiën nog niet over. De huidige minister Sigrid Kaag heeft wel wat andere zaken in haar agenda om zich met de kwestie te bemoeien. Daarom is de reactie van het ministerie zo mager en vaag, een mooie uitnodiging voor Kamervragen. Want heeft de huidige minister van financiën haar rol als kamerlid in het debat toen over de toeslagenaffaire vergeten? De gespeelde verontwaardiging over de gesloten structuur van de belastingdienst en met haar de rest van het parlement te eisen voor een andere, open communicatie met het parlement én de burger? De kans op zo’n Rutte-moment is wel groot, als je vaak in het torentje komt, zonder mondkapje. Ik kan niet wachten op de Kamervragen voor wat stevige antwoorden over die onzinnige ontvlechting van de Belastingdienst.
