Het is toch ongelooflijk, wat daar ten tijde van nota bene een lustrumviering van het Amsterdamse studentencorps gebeurt (NRC 26/7/2022 Vrouwelijke leden corps boos over seksistische speeches). De denigrerende uitlatingen van 4 bestuursleden richting vrouwen in een kennelijk besloten sessie van alleen maar mannen. Niet in het openbaar, want dan zou de provocatie nog een bedoeling kunnen hebben. Namelijk een waarschuwing, dat dergelijke uitlatingen steevast tot grote afkeuring zou leiden en gevolgen zou hebben voor de toekomst van de vereniging en zeker repercussies voor de sprekers. Of nog heldhaftiger, de in de ogen van het corps overtrokken reactie van de ‘metoo’ beweging ter discussie stellen. Om daarmee tenminste een openbare discussie op gang te brengen. Extreem en had ook eerder en op een andere manier kunnen gebeuren, maar dan was er een begin van rechtvaardiging voor deze uitlatingen in een lustrumweek.

Machismo zit in het DNA van elke studentencorps, nationaal én internationaal. Ook vrouwen vinden dit aantrekkelijk en worden ook lid. Waarmee dus ook iets te zeggen valt over de invloedrijke families, die oververtegenwoordigd zijn in het corps. Maar wanneer machismo een grens overschrijdt naar misogynie, is dit voor vrouwen – terecht – onverteerbaar. Daar lijkt nu sprake van te zijn. Een deel van de aanwezige mannen heeft na ontdekking schuld bekend, omdat zij niet hebben geprotesteerd tegen het taalgebruik. Na ontdekking. Dat zijn dus dezelfde mannen, die straks grote ondernemingen zullen leiden: misplaatste loyaliteit. De kiem voor belastingschandalen is goed geconserveerd. Het reinigingsproces zou een proces van lange adem zijn. Hoezo? Een Indische manier om een kind te straffen voor zijn brutale woorden is het smeren van sambal op de lippen. Dat zal het kind geen tweede keer doen. Mogelijk, dat het corps nu een voorraad potjes sambal inslaat.
