Is pride in debauchery justified?
Wees trots op losbandigheid kopt NRC boven het artikel van Linda Duits over het taboe op afwijkende vormen van seks in de discussie over de verspreiding van de infectieziekte apenpokken (NRC 30/7/22 Wees trots op losbandigheid).

Die titel helpt nu juist niet om het taboe te doorbreken. Het dekt ook niet wat Linda Duits in het artikel schrijft. Haar boodschap is dat we niet moeilijk moeten doen over de seks van anderen. Dat is toch heel iets anders dan de naar sensatie riekende trotsheid op losbandigheid te promoten. Als je het gat tussen de randstedelijke elite en de behoudende plattelandsgemeenschap wil vergroten, dan moet je dit zo hard blijven roepen. Maar dat doet Linda Duits dus niet.
Maar Linda Duits betoogt wel, dat het publiek van mening zou zijn, dat de infectieziekte onder de homogemeenschap te wijten is aan hun promiscuĂŻteit en dat het dus hun eigen schuld is. Dat brengt haar tot die boodschap. Die boodschap is terecht. Maar zij ziet iets frivools over het hoofd. PromiscuĂŻteit is ook âinâ bij heterostellen. In een wat ouder artikel van Medisch Contact uit 2010 is een getal genoemd van 15.000 âswingerâ heterostellen. Mijn vermoeden is dat het aantal stellen in de afgelopen 12 jaar alleen maar is gegroeid. PromiscuĂŻteit is denk ik niet het verwijt van het publiek aan de homogemeenschap.
That title does not help to break the taboo. It also doesn’t cover what Linda German writes in the article. Her message is that we shouldn’t be fussy about the sex of others. That is quite different from promoting the sensational-smelling pride of debauchery. If you want to widen the gap between the suburban elite and the conservative rural community, you have to keep shouting this loudly. But Linda German doesn’t do that.
But Linda German does argue that the public would believe that the infectious disease among the gay community is due to their promiscuity and that it is therefore their own fault. That brings her to that message. That message is right. But she overlooks something frivolous. Promiscuity is also “in” with straight couples. A somewhat older article by Medisch Contact from 2010 mentioned a number of 15,000 ‘swinger’ heterosexual couples. My suspicion is that the number of couples has only grown in the past 12 years. I don’t think promiscuity is the public’s accusation against the gay community.
Neen, het is de onderliggende sluimerende homofobie die nog steeds speelt. Dat is veel ernstiger. Volgens een recent rapport van het SCP denkt de Nederlandse bevolking vanaf 2006 positiever over homoseksualiteit. In de recente jaren is de acceptatie echter gestagneerd. Het SCP waarschuwt daarbij voor sociaal wenselijke antwoorden, die de waarheid verhullen. In het verlengde past het verwijt van eigen schuld in de verspreiding van de infectieziekte apenpokken.

The SCP warns against socially desirable answers that conceal the truth. In line with this, the blame of one’s own fault fits in with the spread of the infectious disease monkey pox.
