The end of the adoption stop: “It’s not about us now, it’s about the children”

De stichting wordt met drie andere adoptiestichtingen samengevoegd tot één landelijke adoptiestichting. Dit zou een beter toezicht opleveren om misstanden te voorkomen zoals die zich eerder hebben voorgedaan. Dit na een “fundamentele herbezinning op de toekomst” van het adoptiebeleid door het kabinet, waarbij de stichting zich als enige adoptie instantie zou mogen bemoeien met het adopteren van kinderen voor wie in eigen land geen opvang beschikbaar is. Overigens een voorwaarde in het Haags Adoptieverdrag. Dat internationale verdrag uit 1993 is bedoeld om de rechten van kinderen die interlandelijk geadopteerd worden te waarborgen.

Ook die zullen niet verdwijnen. Hoksbergen heeft vele jaren geleden al gewaarschuwd voor deze ontsporingen vóór en ná de adoptie over de grens. Er is een scala van redenen om kinderen te adopteren, maar de hoofdreden is een onvervulde kinderwens. Kinderen krijgen is een recht geworden. De kinderwens is heilig. Daar moeten we eens mee ophouden. Er is nu eenmaal een grens. Het gaat namelijk niet om ons, maar om de kinderen.
