Suddenly the curtain falls for Rutte IV. Not for the VVD and Mark Rutte.

Het land moet worden bestuurd. Daar is een kabinet voor. Het is niet niks waar het huidige landsbestuur voor staat. Je kan beter één zware crisis hebben dan zes verschillende tegelijk. Zoals de plots opgekomen corona epidemie, die de regering voortvarend heeft aangepakt en die op steun kon rekenen van de bevolking. Het migratiedebat sleept zich al jaren voort. Nu het kabinet gevallen is, doen buitenstaanders verbaasd over het onvermogen om een oplossing te zoeken (NRC 8/7/23 Plotseling valt het doek). Huichelachtig. De burgers zijn verscheurd over dit onderwerp. Dan is het goedkoop nu te komen met het verwijt, dat over de ruggen van kinderen van vluchtelingen partijpolitiek wordt bedreven. Partijpolitiek is in het huidige tijdsgewricht nu eenmaal populistische politiek, luisteren naar de wens van de burger. En die wil, zoals uit recente enquête blijkt, dat de instroom van asielzoekers stopt. Zeker voor een beginselpartij als de Christenunie is dat – begrijpelijk – onaanvaardbaar. Daar wordt geluisterd naar een boek. Het recht om met rust gelaten te worden blijkt nu groter te zijn dan de humane plicht om een mens in nood te helpen. Dat laat nu deze kabinetsbreuk zien. De oppositie lacht in het vuistje. Maar wie het laatst lacht, lacht het best. Een klein beginsel partij met een vaste kern kiezers is altijd een winnaar. Maar de antimigratie partijen zullen om de resterende kiezers vechten. De kiezer weet, dat versplintering geen zoden aan de dijk zet in het migratiedebat. Dat blijkt uit de groei van BBB. Dan zou het zomaar kunnen zijn, dat de VVD en BBB de grote winnaars zullen worden. En dan is Mark Rutte wéér in beeld. 

The country must be governed. There is a cabinet for that. It is not nothing what the current government stands for. It is better to have one serious crisis than six different ones at the same time. Such as the suddenly emerged corona epidemic, which the government has tackled energetically and which could count on the support of the population. The migration debate has been dragging on for years. Now that the cabinet has fallen, outsiders are surprised at the inability to find a solution (NRC 8/7/23 Suddenly the curtain falls). Hypocritical. The citizens are torn on this issue. Then it is cheap to come up with the accusation that party politics is being carried out on the backs of children of refugees. Party politics in the current era is populist politics, listening to the wishes of the citizen. And, as a recent survey shows, they want the influx of asylum seekers to stop. This is – understandably – unacceptable, especially for a principled party like the Christenunie. A book is being listened to there. The right to be left alone now appears to be greater than the humane duty to help a person in need. That now shows this cabinet break. The opposition laughs in the fist. But he who laughs last, laughs best. A small principled party with a solid core of voters is always a winner. But the anti-migration parties will fight for the remaining voters. The voter knows that fragmentation does not help in the migration debate. This is evident from the growth of BBB. Then it could just be that the VVD and BBB will be the big winners. And then Mark Rutte is in the picture again
