Putin wins in Anchorage. But is that an accurate picture?

Het is niet een wedstrijd over een rechtvaardige toekomst voor Oekraïne, maar over hoe Poetin in het kamp Trump getrokken kan worden ten koste van China. Want dat is het enige geopolitieke doel dat telt voor Trump: China uitschakelen, met name economisch. Mogelijk heeft de economische dwerg Poetin zich met beide lemen voeten vastgeklonken aan Trump. En krijgt Poetin de tijd om de affaire Oekraïne af te wikkelen. After all, the end justifies the means.

The image of a sporting showdown between two autocrats. With a beaming Putin as the winner. The real image? It’s not a contest about a just future for Ukraine, but about how Putin can be drawn into the Trump camp at the expense of China. Because that’s the only geopolitical goal that matters to Trump: eliminating China, especially economically. Perhaps the economic dwarf Putin has firmly attached himself to Trump. And Putin will be given time to resolve the Ukraine affair. After all, the end justifies the means.
