Donald Pols. Een persoonlijk drama in drie bedrijven (NRC 3/6/26). De held, de verrader, de verliezer. In het gepolariseerde Nederland zullen veel mensen gniffelen bij het derde bedrijf. Zijn slechte inborst bij het tweede bedrijf wordt nu bevestigd door zijn jeugdzonde. Niet dat die twee zaken iets met elkaar te maken hebben, maar die inborst moet toch ergens vandaan komen.
Maar wie opgelucht ademhaalt is Tata Steel. Ook hun drama kent drie bedrijven. Het verlies, de vergissing, de opluchting. Het in dienst nemen van Donald Pols, door wiens organisatie het vervuilende Tata Steel aan de kaak is gesteld, leverde veel onverwachte, publieke commotie op, waardoor Pols en dus ook het bedrijf veel geloofwaardigheid verloor en hij een vergissing leek als directeur communicatie. Zijn verborgen jeugdzonde was voor Tata Steel daarom een welkome verrassing en een flutreden om hem opzij te zetten.
Wie zonder jeugdzonde is, werpe de eerste steen. Donald Pols heeft daarvoor een levenslange straf gekregen. Onterecht.

His bad nature in the second act is now confirmed by his youthful indiscretion. Not that those two matters have anything to do with each other, but that nature must come from somewhere.
But the one breathing a sigh of relief is Tata Steel. Their drama also consists of three acts: the loss, the mistake, the relief. Hiring Donald Pols, whose organization exposed the polluting Tata Steel, caused a great deal of unexpected public commotion, resulting in Pols—and thus the company—losing much credibility and making him appear like a mistake as Director of Communications. His hidden youthful indiscretion was therefore a welcome surprise for Tata Steel and a flimsy pretext to sideline him.
Let him who is without youthful indiscretion cast the first stone. Donald Pols received a life sentence for this. Unjustly.
