POTUS’s actions regarding Iran backfire. Is Murphy’s Law in effect now?
De acties van de Amerikaanse president werken averechts tegenover wat hij wenst te bereiken met de aanval op Iran (NRC 28/3/2026 Negen keer mis: hoe Donald Trump met de Iran-oorlog precies krijgt wat hij niet wil). De geweldsspiraal is tot daar aan toe, maar vooral het openen van de Doos van Pandora van wat er in de wereldeconomie fout kan gaan lijkt te lopen langs de lijnen van de Wet van Murphy: als er iets mis kán gaan, zál het ook misgaan. Eerst de importtarieven die de Amerikaanse economie een mislukte ‘boost’ hebben gegeven en nu dus het debacle van de fossiele brandstoffen. Hebben de fluisteraars niet voorzien, dat een falende economie de voorbode is van de ondergang van het achterliggend politieke systeem? Wrang genoeg is het voorbeeld daarvan de ondergang van de voormalige USSR. Nu de economische malaise op wereldniveau toeslaat, zal het ook de Amerikaanse economie treffen en dus het Amerikaanse politieke systeem. Een averechts effect, waarmee de Amerikaanse president rekening had kunnen houden, als hij wat leergeld had betaald. Murphy’s Law is in volle gang.
The actions of the American president are counterproductive to what he wishes to achieve with the attack on Iran (NRC 28/3/2026 Nine times wrong: how Donald Trump is getting exactly what he doesn’t want with the Iran war). The spiral of violence is one thing, but above all, the opening of Pandora’s Box regarding what can go wrong in the global economy seems to follow the lines of Murphy’s Law: if something *can* go wrong, it *will* go wrong. First the import tariffs that gave the American economy a failed ‘boost,’ and now the fossil fuel debacle. Did the whisperers not foresee that a failing economy is the harbinger of the downfall of the underlying political system? Ironically, the prime example of this is the collapse of the former USSR. Now that economic malaise is striking on a global level, it will also affect the American economy and thus the American political system. A counterproductive effect that the American president could have taken into account if he had paid his dues. Murphy’s Law is in full swing.
